Field Notes & Observation
A short moment on Skarpö in the Stockholm Archipelago. In this video, you'll hear the sound of the wind in the surrounding trees, the water gently lapping against the shore, and a sudden rain shower hitting the water and rocky shoreline.
The weather forecast showed a slight chance of rain, but it was most likely going to stay dry. Around 16 minutes into the recording, however, the first raindrops slowly began to fall — and quickly turned into pouring rain!
After my sixth trip out to Skarpö, I've started to realize that it's, to say the least, a challenging place to capture. The setting is uniquely peaceful, yet at the same time affected by boat traffic. The spot is sheltered by small islands and skerries, so the larger waves never really reach it.
My intention with this recording is to capture what it actually feels like to sit here for a while. At 15:06, you'll see (and hear) a boat making its way farther out into the archipelago. There is no birdsong in this recording.

How I wish I'd been prepared for it and had some way of protecting the equipment. It could have turned into the most epic recording of rain sounds, but instead I had to rush over, stop the recording and pack everything away before my microphones and camera lens were damaged by the water.
I promise I'll return to Skarpö again soon and try to make a longer recording.
As always, everything you hear and see was recorded on location. No AI. No loops. No cuts. No added sounds or music.
